Mercurial Makes is a handcrafted pottery studio creating functional kitchen and table pieces, decorated with hand carved organic textures and whimsical hand-painted illustrations. Our work is heavily inspired by the beauty in the natural world, mimicking stone and wood textures, and illuminating floral designs.
All pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe, designed and crafted for everyday use. We use stoneware and porcelain clays with food safe glazes, fired in cone 6 oxidation.
Mercedes is a multidisciplinary artist with a formal background in Photography. She started her ceramics journey in high school and college, but took a long hiatus from ceramics to pursue photography and playing the drums in several rock bands for over a decade. A decision to sign up for a wheel throwing class in the summer of 2022 rekindled her love for clay in all its forms, and she was hooked. Crafting pottery has allowed her to utilize her illustration, design, photography, and sculpting talents into beautiful, everyday pieces that are a joy to make and use. When she's not elbow deep in clay, she's usually sketching in copious notebooks, playing with her adorable child, drinking coffee, or playing video games.
